Dep Cpt Les Kiddle and Chief Berry Van Hook
September 2002
Whilst on holidays recently in the USA, Fire Fighter Les Kiddle, Deputy Captain of Helensburgh 325 Station, visited Show Low Fire Department in Arizona and presented fire fighters with a NSWFB shield and a certificate from the Brigade and the people of Helensburgh. This was in recognition of their outstanding service to the Show Low community during the recent major fire storms that were very similar to Helensburgh's Black Christmas fires.
Les also presented a sheild at Clarkdale Fire Department in Arizona in recognition of the close ties between both Helensburgh NSWFB and the Clarkdale Fire Services.
During his stay Les also toured the world class Phoenix Fire Department and the Phoenix Hall of Flame organized by Dr Peter Molly Executive Director of the Hall of Flame Museum. www.hallofflame.org
Les was shown the main Phoenix Control Centre and had numerous demonstrations of state of the art equipment and systems, as well as meeting many of the front line staff. Les said that he was made very welcome and learnt a lot while there.
Deputy Captain Les Kiddle attended a monument dedication to 9/11 in Las Vegas and met up with some of New York's finest.
A NSWFB T Shirt was left with hundreds of others on exhibit along a fence showing the Brother and Sister hood of Fire Fighters.
Les had a picture taken with Master Fire-fighter Marc Worton linking both the NSWFB and the USA Fire Services at this historic event.
Lest we forget 9/11 New York and the brave Emergency Service people who died saving others.
